Quick answer
Most beeps and stops on a TK Home Solutions (thyssenkrupp) stairlift have simple causes. On the Flow X, a constant orange light with a warning sound means a start condition is not met, such as the seat or footrest not folded down or the seatbelt not fastened. A constant red light with an error sound is a malfunction: switch the lift off and on again, and call your supplier if it persists. A flashing red light means the emergency stop is pressed. On the Flow 2, beeps every few seconds usually mean the lift is not on a charging point. If a reset does not clear it, call an engineer rather than forcing the lift.
TK Home Solutions, part of TK Elevator and formerly thyssenkrupp Home Solutions, sells and services stairlifts across the UK, and its lifts are often described by their model names, such as the Flow X and Flow 2. This page explains what the lights, beeps and codes in the manufacturers’ user manuals mean, what you can safely check yourself, and when to call for help. Stairlift Guru is independent and not affiliated with TK Home Solutions. If your lift is a different model, check the label on the carriage and your own user manual.
Never try to open the carriage, bypass a safety switch or move the lift by force. If someone is stuck on the stairs and cannot get off safely, call for help, and call 999 if they are hurt.

Flow X: what the lights and sounds mean
The Flow X user manual, published by thyssenkrupp Stairlifts, uses a light on the armrest and a sound to tell you what is wrong.
| What you see and hear | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Constant orange light and a warning sound | A start condition is not met: for example the seat or footrest is not folded down, the armrests are not locked, the seatbelt is not fastened, or the key switch is off | Check each condition, then try again |
| Constant red light and an error sound | A malfunction | Switch the lift off and on again; if it continues, contact your supplier |
| Flashing red light | The emergency stop button is pressed | Release it by pressing the button for more than two seconds |
| Continuous sound when parked away from a charging point | The batteries may run down because the lift is not charging | Move the lift to a charging point and leave it there |
The manual also says the anti-squeeze safety system can stop the lift, and to operate the joystick twice to start it again. Fully charging flat batteries can take around 16 hours, and the call and park remote controls use AAA batteries, with a flashing orange light showing they are low.
Flow 2 and Flow 2A: beeps and display codes
The Flow 2A user manual describes these signals:
- Two-tone beeps for three seconds, repeated about every 13 seconds, mean the stairlift is not on a charging point.
- A constant red light with fast intermittent beeps means the safety belt is not fastened.
- A flashing red light with fast intermittent beeps means the lift has met an obstacle and stopped. Clear the obstruction and drive the lift in the opposite direction to move away from it.
The Flow 2 display shows a two-digit code. A code beginning F is a fault, C is a warning and S is a source code. The Flow 2 manual lists F01 and F02 as an obstruction on the left or right and F05 as a tilt of more than five degrees, among others. Codes beginning E come from the engineers’ service manual and need a service engineer to diagnose.
The Flow 2A manual also asks owners to reset the lift periodically, about every 20 months, by removing and reinserting the joystick. Check your own manual before doing this.
Simple checks before you call an engineer
- Is the lift parked on a charging point, and is the plug switched on at the wall? Most beeping is a charging problem.
- Is the key switch on, and is the emergency stop released?
- Is the seat, armrest or footrest folded fully down, and the seatbelt fastened where fitted?
- Is anything on the stairs or touching the carriage’s safety edges?
- Switch the lift off and on again once.
If the lift still will not move, or shows a red fault light, call your service provider. Our general guide to a stairlift that is not working and our fault codes reference cover other makes.
The lifetime warranty and who to call
TK Home Solutions says its new stairlifts come with a lifetime warranty, but it is only valid if the lift has an annual service by a TKE engineer, and missing a service invalidates it. Its lifetime warranty terms say the lifetime is that of the customer, the warranty is not transferable, a service by a third party does not keep it in place, and drive batteries and rollers are covered for five years. TK Home Solutions also recommends a service every 12 months, and says its engineers work on most brands.
So if your lift is under the lifetime warranty, call TK Home Solutions rather than an independent engineer, or you may lose the cover. If it is out of warranty, an independent engineer can be cheaper; our service cost guide lists published call-out charges, and our warranties compared page sets the TKE terms against other brands.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my TK stairlift beeping?
Usually because it is not on a charging point or the power is off at the wall. On the Flow 2A, two-tone beeps every 13 seconds mean it is not on charge. Park it on the charging point and check the switch.
How do I reset a TK Home Solutions stairlift?
On the Flow X, switch the lift off and on again, and release the emergency stop by pressing it for more than two seconds. The Flow 2A manual describes a periodic reset by removing and reinserting the joystick. If it does not clear, call an engineer.
What does a red light on a Flow X stairlift mean?
A constant red light with an error sound means a malfunction; switch off and on, then call your supplier if it continues. A flashing red light means the emergency stop is pressed.
Will an independent engineer void my TK lifetime warranty?
The lifetime warranty requires an annual service by a TKE engineer, and its terms say a third-party service does not keep it in place. While you rely on that warranty, use TK Home Solutions.
