Stairlift Prices by UK Region: Regional Cost Guide

Last updated: 22 June 2026 · Indicative figures derived from our UK Stairlift Price Index. Free to cite with attribution.

Do stairlift prices vary across the UK? Less than many people expect. Stairlifts are mass-manufactured and most major suppliers operate nationwide, so the unit price is broadly uniform. The main regional difference comes from installation and survey labour and local competition, which published data shows is highest in London and the South East and lowest across the North, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The figures below apply those documented labour differences to our national price benchmarks.

Copy-and-paste stat: Stairlift prices vary only modestly across the UK, around 8% between the most and least expensive regions, because the lift itself is priced nationally and only installation labour differs (Stairlift Guru UK Price Index, 2026).

What changes your price more than your region

Regional differences are real but small compared with the choices you make. A curved rather than straight rail typically adds £1,500 to £4,000. VAT relief saves eligible buyers around 17%, more than the entire regional spread. Choosing reconditioned (30 to 50% below new) or rental (about £65 a month) changes the figure far more than your postcode does. FAQ

Do stairlift prices vary by region in the UK?

Only modestly, around 8% between the most and least expensive regions. The lift itself is priced nationally; the main regional difference is installation labour, which is highest in London and the South East and lowest across the North, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Where are stairlifts cheapest in the UK?

Installation labour is lowest in the North of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, so installed prices there tend to sit slightly below the national average. The difference is small compared with VAT relief or choosing a reconditioned model.

Are stairlifts more expensive in London?

Slightly. Higher installation labour and survey costs in London and the South East add a few per cent to the installed price, but the lift unit is the same price as elsewhere.

Methodology & Sources

National benchmarks come from our continuously updated UK Stairlift Price Index (straight £2,300, curved £5,200 installed). Regional figures apply published regional construction and tradesperson labour-rate differences to the installation-labour share of a typical job. Labour-rate differentials are from UK trade-rate guidance showing London and the South East roughly 30 to 35% above average and the North, Wales and Scotland 10 to 15% below (Checkatrade tradesperson cost guide; 4A Trades regional rates). Because labour is only part of an installed stairlift price, the resulting regional spread is modest. These are indicative estimates, not quotes.
