Stairlift Running-Cost Calculator (UK 2026)

Stairlifts are very cheap to run. A UK stairlift uses only around £5 to £15 of electricity a year because the motor runs only during trips. The main ongoing costs are annual servicing and occasional battery replacement. Use the calculator below to estimate the running cost, and total cost of ownership, over the years you expect to keep the lift.

How the calculator works

The calculator adds three ongoing costs over the period you choose, plus an optional purchase price:

  • Annual servicing – typically £80 to £180 per year in the UK (default £130). Servicing keeps the lift safe and usually maintains the warranty.
  • Electricity – about £5 to £15 per year at 2026 tariffs (default £10). Stairlifts run on rechargeable batteries that top up from a standard socket.
  • Battery replacement – roughly £60 to £120 every 3 to 5 years (defaults £90 every 4 years).

All defaults use typical UK figures from our stairlift prices guide. Replace them with your own quotes for a personalised estimate. The result is an estimate for guidance only, not a quote.
